PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Philadelphia Soul, in partnership with the NFL Alumni Association, announced today the launch of the 2019 Soul Junior Football Academy, presented by Virtua. The program delivers hands-on football instruction from current & former professional players to the region’s youngest fans, while also providing unforgettable, one-of-a-kind “pro player” experiences that allow youth players the chance to experience game day as a pro football player.
“For my son’s 8th birthday we signed him up for the Soul’s Jr Football Academy and it was by far the best present to give our football loving son,” said Angelica Crespo, whose son participated in the 2018 Junior Football Academy. “The players engage so much with the kids and truly love as much as the kids do. Elijah still tells everyone that he was told he has great footwork by a Soul player.”
From March through June, members of the program will receive exclusive insights and coaching from Soul players, coaches, and distinguished NFL Alumni, including former Philadelphia Eagles Ron Jaworski, Jon Runyan and Garry Cobb, as well as Super Bowl Champions and Soul Co-Owners Marques Colston and Jahri Evans, among others.
“NFL Alumni is pleased to be partnering with the Philadelphia Soul for its 2019 Soul Junior Football Academy,” says NFL Alumni CEO Elvis Gooden. “Connecting our youth with NFL alumni and local chapters equips our next generation with lifelong experiences and memories.”
Among the various activities planned for the program, participants will complete a “skills combine” that mimics the process that all draft-eligible players go through ahead of the NFL Draft, compete in a program-wide flag football tournament coached by current Soul players, and feel what it’s like to be inside the locker room before or after a Soul home game. Parents will also be able to participate in a free concussion seminar, presented compliments of Virtua. The goal is to provide a well-rounded, healthy and exciting experience for the next generation of football fans.
“We’ve seen the excitement on the participants’ faces over the last couple of seasons as they’ve gone through the schedule and developed real, personal relationships with our players & coaches,” said Soul Vice President, Business Operations Marc Zamarin. “So, to have the opportunity to take the participants’ experience to the next level by partnering with NFL Alumni is tremendous and we cannot wait to get started.”
