Joining the Empire late during the inaugural season, Mykel “Boom Boom” Benson returns to the Empire in 2019. A Florida native, he attended Florida A&M University where he played both football and baseball.  After college, Benson burst onto the scene in his rookie season in the AFL with the Milwaukee Mustang, racking up 20 total touchdowns.  Following his rookie season, Benson split time with the Orlando Predators and Georgie Force before breaking out with the San Antonio Talons in 2014, tallying up over 500 total yards and 20 touchdowns on his way to being named Second Team All-Arena.  “Boom Boom” spent both the 2015 and 2016 seasons continuing his dominance on the ground in Arizona, compiling 36 total scores in the two seasons and being named First Team All-Arena in 2016.  In 2017, Benson played for the eventual champs, Philadelphia Soul, where he finished first in the League in rushing touchdowns with 23 and fourth in the League in total touchdowns with 26 on his way to another First Team All-Arena honors. After beginning the 2018 season with the Baltimore Brigade, Benson made his way to Albany in Week 11.  In three regular season games with the Empire, Benson contributed four rushing touchdowns and added a powerful ground element to an already potent offense.
