Soul travel to D.C. for first time this season

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Philadelphia Soul (3-3) will visit the Washington Valor (0-6) at Capital One Arena for the first time this season on Thursday, May 31st with kickoff at 7:00 p.m. The Soul are 1-0 against the Valor this season and look to end their three-game losing streak.

The main storyline this week is backup quarterbacks stepping in for injured MVP’s. In relief of 2015 League MVP Dan Raudabaugh, Philadelphia’s Greg McGhee made his first start last week against Baltimore. While the Soul left with a loss, McGhee demonstrated the type of athleticism he brings to the position by rushing for 67 yards, a single-game high for the Soul this season. On the year, he has totaled 20 completions on 35 attempts for 212 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. Meanwhile for the Valor, QB Shane Austin is doing his best to fill in for three-time League MVP Nick Davila. Through two games, he has recorded 35 completions of 61 attempts for 351 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions.

On the Valor roster, keep a look out for WR Reggie Gray, as he became the 15th player in AFL history to surpass 800 career receptions in their Week 7 game against the Albany Empire. So far this season, Gray has totaled 34 receptions for 373 yards and eight touchdowns. On defense, watch DB Michael Knight, who has totaled 20.5 tackles, a forced fumble and two interceptions.

As for the Soul, watch Wide Receiver Darius Prince continue to dominate the offense, as he still leads the league in receiving yards with 558. Also look out for DL Jake Metz, who totaled 5.5 tackles and two sacks in last week’s game against Baltimore.

“We have a short week coming up but that won’t stop us from being prepared,” said Soul Head Coach Clint Dolezel. “We’re ready to come back strong and bring another win back home.”

Coming Up Next: The Soul are coming home to face the Washington Valor on Sunday, June 10 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
