The Albany Empire (4-2) won their fourth consecutive game last night in a rout against the Washington Valor (0-6) at the Times Union Center by a score of 48-21 in front of a crowd of 7,847.  After an even first quarter, the Empire were able to pile on three scores in the second quarter to take the lead and never look back.  Albany maintained it’s third quarter dominance by allowing 0 points while extending their lead.  So far on the season, the Empire has outscored opponents by 54 total points in the third quarter.

The game’s MVP, Tommy Grady totaled 17 completions on 23 attempts for 237 yards and 6 touchdowns.  On the season, Grady has totaled 118 completions on 181 attempts for 1,405 yards and a league best 34 touchdowns.  Grady is second in the league in passing yards and first in the league in touchdowns per game with 5.7.

Grady spread the ball around last night finding three different receivers at least five times.  Joe Hills reeled in 5 catches for 99 yards and 3receiving touchdowns.  This marked the 86th consecutive game with a receiving touchdown for Hills, an active league record.  Through five games, Hills leads the league with 13 receiving touchdowns.  Hills is second in the league with 39 receptions and third in the league with 476receiving yards.  Malachi Jones continued his dominance last night totaling for 6 receptions for 78 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Jones is tied with Hills for the league lead in total touchdowns with 13 and second in the league with 487 receiving yards on the season.  Collin Taylor added another 6 catches for 64 yards and 1 touchdown.  Veteran receiver Greg Carr chipped in 2 receptions for 9 yards.

The Empire defense was led by jack linebacker Terence Moore who had 8.5 tackles, 1 interception which he returned 37 yards for a touchdown.  On the season, Moore is second in the league in total tackles with 38.  Defensive back Arthur Hobbs added 6 total tackles and 1interception on the night.  Defensive back Marrio Norman added another 4.5 total tackles in the victory. On the season, Norman is third in the league in tackles with 36.

The betting spread favored the Empire (-14) which Albany covered easily winning by 27 points.  The score totaled up to 69 points; well short of the over/under of 92 set by oddsmakers.

The next game for the Empire is a home matchup against the first place Brigade on Saturday, June 2 at 7 pm in the Times Union Center.
