PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Philadelphia Soul (4-4) fell to the Washington Valor (1-7) for the first time ever last night by just 1 point with by the final score of 49-48. Although the Soul went into halftime leading by 14, the Valor’s strong 3rd quarter set the stage for a dramatic final period, with a blocked extra point being the ultimate difference.

The Soul’s newest starting Quarterback Shane Austin totaled 18 completions on 33 attempts for 302 yards, 2 interceptions and 6touchdowns. This was Austin’s first start with the Soul since joining the roster last week and his third AFL start of the season. Including his time with the Valor earlier in 2018, Austin has recorded 53 completions on 94 attempts for 653 yards, 12 touchdowns and 4 interceptions.

Soul WR Darius Prince completed another stellar performance as he led all players in receptions (8), receiving yards (146) and a season-high (4) touchdowns. He currently leads the league in receptions (60) and receiving yards (765), and is tied for second in touchdown receptions with 15. Also contributing to the scoring were WR Darius “Money” Reynolds (4 receptions for 80 yards and 1touchdown) and WR Aaron Wascha (2 receptions for 41 yards and 1 touchdown). Soul DB LaRico Stevenson recorded an interception for the second straight week while also securing 5.5 tackles and forcing 1 fumble.

For sports gamblers, this was a tough game if you took the home favorite in the Soul, as the Valor negated any need for the point spread with the outright upset. Hopefully you salvaged the night by taking the Over, which was set at 89.5.

Coming up in Week 10, the Soul head to Albany to take on the Albany Empire on Saturday, June 16 at the Times Union Center. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
