Bell Awarded Commissioner’s Award & Defensive Player of the Year

PHILADELPHIA – The Arena Football League today announced that Soul LB Beau Bell (6’2, 245, UNLV) has been awarded both the Commissioner’s Award and Defensive Player of the Year for the 2017 season. Bell has also received First Team All-Arena for the 2017 season. The Commissioner’s Award recognizes an individual who has done considerable work to grow the game of Arena Football.

“There is no one who deserves these recognitions more than Beau,” said Soul head coach Clint Dolezel. “His ability to read offenses and make big plays are the reason that he is the top in the league. His knowledge and experiences from many years in the AFL have allowed him to be a leader and mentor to the younger players on our team.”

The 2017 season was a record breaking season for Bell. He led the league with 13.0 sacks as well as breaking the Soul’s single season sack record (11.0 set by Teddy Jennings in 2014). He tallied 31.5 total tackles, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble during the regular season. In three seasons with the Soul, Bell has recorded 68.5 total tackles, 19.5 sacks, and six pass break-ups. Bell was awarded First Team All-Arena in 2014 for his performance with the LA KISS, tallying 69.0 total tackles, 13.0 sacks and one interception for a defensive touchdown.

Bell has a mind for football, both on and off the field. He has been participating in an online scouting course since the beginning of the season, scouting different positions within the NFL. He breaks down game film in his spare time so he can assist Assistant Coach Phil Bogle with the defensive line. He also traveled to Daytona, FL in December 2016 to help coach the FCS Bowl with Bogle. Bell is driven by his passion for the game and is an inspiration to his fellow teammates.

“Beau is the ultimate professional; he lives and breathes football,” said Soul assistant head coach Phil Bogle. “He is always willing to help his teammates and is the most unselfish player I have ever coached. I am very proud of all he has accomplished.”

The Soul will host the Storm on Saturday, August 26 at the Wells Fargo Center at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on 6abc, Twitter and 97.5 The Fanatic. Tickets are on sale now at PhiladelphiaSoul.com
