Valor still on the hunt for first win of 2018 as they visit the Soul

LAS VEGAS – Tied for the top spot in the AFL, the Albany Empire (5-2) play host for the second straight week to the Baltimore Brigade (5-2) onSaturday, June 9 at 7:30 p.m. ET at Times Union Center on CBS Sports Network.

The Philadelphia Soul (4-3) snapped their three-game losing streak last week in D.C. and play host to the Washington Valor (0-7) on Sunday, June 10 at 4 p.m. ET at Wells Fargo Center on AFL Now and AFL Facebook Watch Page.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR: BRIGADE: QB Randy Hippeard went 24-of-30 passes for 205 yards, one INT, and six TDs in the Brigade’s 61-53 loss last week against the Empire…On the season, Hippeard has completed 158-of-223 passes for 1,643 yards, three INTs, and 34 TDs while adding nine rushing attempts for 40 yards and two TDs…WR Brandon Collins and WR Brandon Thompkins each found the end zone twice against Albany in Week 8…Collins caught nine receptions for 77 yards and two scores…Thompkins hauled in six receptions for 33 yards and two TDs…Thompkins leads the League in kick return yards with 585…In seven games, the duo has combined for 74 catches for 716 yards and 13 TDs…DB Virgil Gray and DB Joe Powell lead the Valor defense…Gray has tallied 49.5 total tackles, one tackle for-a-loss, eight pass breakups, 10 passes defended, and two INTs…Powell has recorded 29.5 total tackles, one fumble recovery, six pass breakups, eight passes defended, and two INTs…EMPIRE: Last week in the Empire’s 61-53 win over the Brigade, QB Tommy Grady completed 19-of-30 passes for 248 yards and eight TDs to earn Offensive Player of the Week honors…Grady has gone 137-of-211 passes for 1,653 yards, four INTs, and 42 TDs in 2018..The former Ute ranks first in the League in passing yards and passing touchdowns…Grady has a dynamic duo of receivers to target…WR Malachi Jones hauled in eight catches for 133 yards and three TDs…The rookie is the League leader in reception yards with 620…WR Joe Hills caught 7 receptions for 60 yards and three TDs against the Brigade in Week 8…The 2016 Offensive Player of the Year has 46 catches for 536 yards and 16 TDs in six games…The Empire defense caused three forced fumbles against Baltimore and is led on defense by DB Marrio Norman…Norman has tallied 43 total tackles, five pass breakups, seven passes defended, and two INTs

WHAT TO LOOK FOR: VALOR: The Valor added QB Arvell Nelson to its roster before Week 8’s game against the Soul…Nelson completed 25-of-44 passes for 345 yards, two INTs, and seven TDs in his debut with the Valor…Last season, Nelson went 242-of-378 passes for 3,084 yards, 14 INTs, and 61 TDs…WR Reggie Gray is the Valor’s leading receiver this season with 42 receptions for 500 yards and 11 TDs…Last week against the Soul, Gray hauled in 8 catches for 127 yards and three TDs…WR Jared Dangerfield got his first career AFL touchdown in his second game of 2018…The rookie caught seven passes for 73 yards and two TDs…DB Michael Knight continues to leads the Valor defense with 21.5 total tackles, one pass break up, two passes defended, one fumble recovery, and one INT…SOUL: QB Greg McGhee got his second start under center against the Valor…The rookie completed 11-of-19 passes for 189 yards, one INT, and 4 TDs while adding 14 rushing yards and two rushing TDs…Since taking over for QB Dan Raudabaugh, McGhee has gone 31-of-54 passes for 401 yards, three INTs, and nine TDs and adding 88 rushing yards and four TDs…The “Darius Duo” continue to be the Soul’s go-to receivers…WR Darius Prince caught five passes for 61 yards and three TDs…WR Darius Reynolds added an additional two receptions for 38 yards and one TD against the Valor last week…The duo has combined for 83 catches for 1,041 yards and 19 TDs on the season…DB LaRico Stevenson tallied 5.5 total tackles and 43 yard INT return for a TD to earn him Defensive Player of the Week honors
